Ultrasound-guided injections have emerged as a valuable and precise tool for both diagnosis and treatment. This innovative approach involves using real-time ultrasound imaging to guide the accurate placement of therapeutic injections into specific anatomical structures.

Historically injections were performed without ultrasound, making them less accurate. If a patient did not respond as expected, this would often result in uncertainty - did they fail to respond because the needle was not in the right place? Ultrasound has reduced this uncertainty substantially as the needle can be guided under direct vision to the target tissue such as a tendon, bursa or joint space. Patients often report that ultrasound-guided injections are less painful too.
